Merry X-mas and happy New Year

Just want to wish you all a happy holidays and fill you in on the going ons in my life. Just finished what i think was a great semester. I didn't do some of the greatest work of my life, but i definitely learned alot! and think that will show through my Senior thesis.

Now i am preparing to head back to DC for the Holidays (i.ee cleaning the studio, the house, organizing artwork, etc...). where i plan to try to get alot of sketchbook work done, something that i have been wanting to do for a while. instead of always going for the best finished product i would like to work on doing some more fun, quick, and lively sketchbook things for a while. Which should be great because i will be going to India to Visit my sister for a week and a half where i am sure there will be great opportunities to do plenty of sketching!

I will try to keep posting art (sketchbook or otherwise) and keep you updated on my journey. and then when i get back to Sarasota, straight into working on my Thesis! yikes. Scary to think that School is almost over! But at the same time, excited and ready to get myself out into the Illustration world!

Wine label paintings

here are the three paintings that i did for the Wine Labels assignment. the paintings themselves are pretty good in my opinion ( i.e. the backgrounds and composition are sweet, but the figures need work still) but they looks really sweet in the actual label. i will post the final label designs but for now they are on the school computers and i cannot access them from my home computer. but for now enjoy the paintings and ill hae more for you soon.

they are all oil on board and in order from top to bottom they are : Valhalla Vineyards White, Valhalla Vineyards Blush and Valhalla Vineyards Burgundy. 20" x 16"

Comic cover and interior art

Heres a quick peak at my "Nightcrawlers" comic book. its a short story by Robert R. McCammon that i translated into a short comic for George Pratts Illustration class. The story is about a vietnam vet who can bring things from his imagination to life for a short time because of his exposure to this chemical called "howdy doody" in the war. He shows up at a diner and brings the horrors of the war with him.

The comic itself is nearly all done in black and white right now, but i intend to finish it with some color. The cover (top) is done with inks and gesso on board and the Interior page (bottom) is done in ink and gesso on illustration board. Hope you like. More to come when it is all done.

Obama Artwork!

So to celebrate Obama's election I decided to do this quick painting of Barack as Captain America. Kind of a silly idea (it was going to be worse, i was going to have him battling a giant squid monster) and not the best execution, but for a quick one night painting i am pretty happy. still going to work on it more, but i thought id post it as a work in progress for now. 18" x 24" oil on clayboard

Stay tuned for more posts to come. im doing some really cool illustrations for this comic book assignment in George Pratts class. so ill give you a look at the cover art and some interior art until i get the whole thing finished. its looking really good and i cant wait to finish!

Some New, Some Old, Artwork - Illustration Academy and Tata Gala

Here we have an illustration Ive been meaning to post that was done over the summer at the illustration Academy, "Jack and the Beanstalk" done under the instruction of Sterling Hundley, John English, and George Pratt. 16"x24" mixed media

...and secondly is the piece i did for the illustrious Tata Gala show at Digital 3. although i wasnt completely happy about how the piece turned out (needs more emphasis on the breasts) the show was fantastic. Amazing artwork by all of my friends and some really cool stuff by Eric Jones and Nathan Fox. what could be better than a night of friends, art, and breasts? 36" x 48" Oil on board

Illest of Ill and upcoming shows

Me looking like a deer in the headlights in front of my Pirates Piece.

So last friday night was Illest of Ill at Ringling and i am so happy to say that i finally got work into the show. its the first time since freshman year that ive gotten work in to a judged show, so i was thrilled to get two pieces in this year (the medusa painting and the pirates painting). it was a great night, my parents were in town visiting, everyone got dressed up really nice (the theme was the Gibson girl and the Arrow collar man), and had a fantastic time at the show and then at the digital 3 afterparty. teh show was judged by Sam Weber and Jillian Tamaki. I am a Huge fan of Sam Webers work, you should check him out at Http://www.sampaints.com

and coming up i will be submitting one or two pieces to the Tata Gala also at Digital 3. a show about breasts, for breasts (all the proceeds go to support the fight against breast cancer). so thanks to Amanda, and Alyssa for modeling for me. the work should be awesome and i cant wait to get it done and post it up here for you guys!

New Work and updates

So sorry i havent updated this in a while. you know how it is. school started and then all sorts of chaos ensued! i also havent had any great work to put up just yet this year but now i think ive got some cool stuff for you guys. first off, for George Pratts Advanced Illustration class, we all had to do 30 heads in 30 days on 12x12 surfaces. at first i was a bit overwhelmed trying to make each portrait look great, but towards the end i just started spitting out some really fun work. hope you like them

the Monster table!

I havent been on blogspot for a minute because things have been kind of quiet these past few weeks. Moved into my new house (we'll see how long this lasts (fingers crossed)) and started school, which is exciting. Senior year! honestly i am excited and terrified at the same time, but i hear that is normal.

My best friend from back home (Maryland), Jesus, just got into town. Im so excited because we always end up doing crazy art projects together, and the first thing we did together was paint our X-table. so i thought i'd show you all some of the pics from that. enjoy!

current news

so although right now moving out of and cleaning my old house is taking top priority in my life, i still have a few cool things working at the same time. firstly and most exciting for me is I just got back from the Hamptons where i met with Laura Grenning, an artist and owner of the Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor. we met and i showwed my portfolio, which led to a 45 minute discussion about the current art world and trends. in the end she offered to show some of my work later in the year (pending me putting together a landscape portfolio). so there is a chance i might be showing work in the hamptons later in the year! very exciting.

In addition to that, there are a few shows coming up that i will be showing in. first, im going to be finishing a large size painting of the Absinthe club scene (which right now is only a digital painting) for the upcoming Tata Gala at Digital 3. this is something ive wanted to do for a while so i am very excited to see where it goes. and i was also approached about doing another show where i could showcase more of my work, but that is still in question, more on that as i know more.
well thats abot it for now, i also have to post my Jack and the beanstalk painting featuring Henry! ill see if i can do that today.

medusa at Ill acad

This is the first (good) piece i did at the Illustration Academy '08. under the direction of John Foster, i think that this turned out to be a pretty successful piece. its 18x24 Oil on Board.
soon ill post the next piece i did, pirates conspiring to mutiny. Sean and Pat did a great job of modeling for it and it came out pretty sweet.

indiana Jones Movie Poster

here is my version of the movie poster for the new indiana jones movie, the kingdom of the crystal skull. its oil, airbrush, spray paint, and colored pencil on a 24x36 board. there is a bit of reflection in the center, but you get the idea.
ps. Drew Struzan is a dick.

more art

some more art. this is from second semester junior year.

the first two are oil paintings. the inauguration of Colbert, and Hot Fuzz. the next two are digital paintings done on Corel Painter.

some older art

here are a few images of some of my older art (2007 and earlier)

First Blog ever!

this is my first blog and i guess im going to use this as a place to post my artwork until i get a real website. it might take me a while to get my art uploaded on here, so bear with me. but soon this will be a place for all things art related for me. Right now im doing the illustration academy at Ringling and am very excited about the artwork that i've been doing. cant wait to get it up here. until then, keep it real.
